Handoff Reports

AI-generated knowledge transfer documents that analyze an employee's expertise, identify critical gaps, and produce an actionable transfer plan.

Generating a Report

  1. Navigate to Knowledge in the sidebar
  2. Select the Handoff tab (manager-only)
  3. Enter the employee's email address
  4. Click Generate

The system analyzes the employee's knowledge profile, documents, sessions, and coverage data. A loading indicator shows "Analyzing knowledge coverage..." while the report is generated.

Report Sections

Employee Summary

Top-level stats shown in a summary bar:

  • Employee — name and role
  • Sessions — number of knowledge sessions recorded
  • Docs — number of documents authored
  • Coverage — overall knowledge coverage level

Bus Factor Score

A large gauge showing the departure risk score (0–100):

  • ≥ 70 (Healthy) — knowledge is well-distributed, departure is manageable
  • 40–69 (At Risk) — knowledge transfer needed before departure
  • < 40 (Critical) — significant knowledge concentration risk

Critical Gaps

Each gap is displayed with a colored severity chip and left-border accent:

  • Topic — the knowledge area at risk
  • Severity — critical (red), high (orange), or medium (blue)
  • Reason — why this is a gap
  • Recommendation — specific action to close the gap

Safe Topics

Knowledge areas with adequate coverage, shown as green chips with coverage levels.

Action Plan

A numbered list of concrete steps to execute the knowledge transfer, ordered by priority.

Access

Handoff Reports require a manager account. Non-managers will see a 403 error. The report is generated via goSvc.generateHandoffReport(email).

  • Before an employee departs or changes roles
  • Planning extended leave (parental, medical, sabbatical)
  • Cross-training initiatives
  • Quarterly knowledge risk reviews
